No need for long stories to drive home the point of this post. Many people prepare for every other thing in life except for one very important thing which is marriage. When we have exams, we prepare for them. For sportsmen, they make adequate preparation before the day they have a match. Teachers prepare their notes before coming to the class, and many more other examples. The problem now is many bachelors and bachelorettes do not prepare for this thing called marriage. They feel it is something they can just walk into, and things will fall in place.

Let’s go by the popular adage which says, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” If you do not prepare for your marriage, be prepared that the marriage will hit the rocks sooner. Well, this post is not focused on the different forms of preparation. Read that here. The aim of the post is to help you with book choices you can make as part of preparing for marriage.

So, over to the books.

THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE MARRIAGE.

This is one of Gary Chapman’s classic on marriage. There are several opinions we might have for a long time and there are some illusions we have about marriage. Well, I’m not saying our opinions are wrong, but there are certain things you have to prepare your mind for while going into marriage. Here some things he had to say. “That being in love is not an adequate foundation for building a successful marriage. That romantic love has two stages. That the saying ‘like father like son, like mother like daughter is not a myth.’ How to solve disagreements without arguing.” There are a whole lot to learn and the book will be worth your read.

FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES.

Another classic by Gary Chapman. Here, he talks about the five love languages. They are physical touch, acts of service, words of affirmation, giving of gifts, and quality time. Do yourself good to read this book so you can love your spouse the way they want to be loved.

PREPARING TO BE HIS HELPMEET

A great book by Debi Pearls. In this time where submission and the concept of being one’s husband’s help meet, Debi has helped us understand the blessedness of submission and being a true help meet for our husbands. Hear this. “If you are a wife, you were created to fill a need and in that capacity, you’re a ‘good thing,’ a helper suited to the needs of your husband. This is how God created you and it’s your purpose for existing.”

EVERY WOMAN’S MARRIAGE

Shanon and Greg Ethridge will take you through the path of what every woman’s marriage should look like. There’s a lot to learn beginning with when your heart grows cold, to looking at the bigger picture to when his flame of joy and passion dies to many other things to learn. I’m certain you don’t want to miss out of the great treasures in this book.

POWER OF A PRAYING HUSBAND

Stormie Omartian talks about why you need to cover your wife in prayers. The power of prayers in sustaining your marriage cannot be overemphasized. Praying for your wife’s submission, motherhood, sexuality, priorities, beauties, emotions and all goes a long way in helping your family. Get the book to know more about the essence of praying for your wife. She also has the “Power Of A Praying Wife.” (This is a bonus).

I’m sure with these few books of mine, you’ll be able to read some as a means of preparation. if there are others you want to add, feel free to do so in the comment box.
