You don’t know how excited I am writing this particular post. Some time last year or early this year, I did a maid rant (it wasn’t rant per se because it made a whole lot of sense). I just wanted to let out what was in me because of the recent occurence of ill treatments of maids by their employers. I mean, I was shocked at the extent by which some people treated their maids inhumanely and in a degrading manner.

Well, I may not be so bothered (I always will actually) if those who do such things are those who don’t have the life of Christ, but for those who claim to ‘know’ Christ, yet stoop so low to treat their maids with dishonour and contempt, then I shake my head for you (SMH).

Many read their Bibles, but I don’t know if what they do is selective reading. Graciously, the Bible is complete and it even talks about how maids should be treated. These maids are humans just like you and me, the only difference is that tables did not turn in their favour. They did not choose to be maids. If they had better options, I’m sure they’ll want to do something better and more dignifying.

Let’s take a look at a perfect example who balanced things up in life down to how she treated her maids. “She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maiden.” (Proverbs 31: 15). Let’s take a cue from this. Some households find it difficult to give a befitting meal to the maids living with them. How sad! The Proverbs 31 woman took her maids as part of her household and their welfare was her concern.

She gave them no mean treatment and she did not leave the work to them. Though she had a handy number of maids at her beck and call, she still did not eat the bread of idleness. She got her boots dirty by working. Hey! What about their clothing? Many times, I see people with their maids and I can easily point out who the maid is because of the way they are dressed. Well, you may not have the luxury of buying them expensive clothes, but the least you can do is to ensure they look decent and not like dregs.

The Proverbs 31 woman saw to it that they were well clothed. They were comfortable in her abode and this made them do the work ascribed to them with all of their hearts. If we can emulate the character of the Proverbs 31 woman in this regard, I’m assured that there will be less maid troubles.

I hope you’ve learnt one or two. If you have anything to add, please do so in the comment section.

Hugs and kisses. Much love.
