“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two hall become one flesh. The mystery is very great, but I speak concerning the relation of Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5: 31&32 (AMP).

What is marriage to you exactly? Is it just the coming together of a woman and a man after a glamorous, talk of the town wedding? Is it what the society has said it should be, or what you saw happening and has been passed down from generation to generation?

When Paul the Apostle wrote to the Ephesians what should guide the marital relationship between a man and a woman, he made mention that the union is just a representation (a miniature one) of what goes on between Christ and the church. That is why he said husbands are to love their wives the way Christ loved the church and wives are to submit to their husband’s the way the church submits to Christ.

If as believers, your marriage is not a pointer to the relationship between Christ and church, your marriage is operating below the expectation of God.

Many people are running their homes the way society has painted marriage to be, that is why it is difficult to see men who love their wives like their own bodies, and the way Christ loves the church. That is why there are many women who are finding submission a difficult task to perform. The society through the media and its several other channels have given people a new code by which they are to run their homes.

Can we go back to how it was in the beginning, where the Bible rules every area of life including marriage, and the pursuit of the representation of Christ and the church in marriages is the main goal of many couples? Can we go back to how God wants homes to be while we ditch what society expects? Can we? Yes, we can! It begins with your home and with my home.

Jesus at the center makes the home godly and happy.
