“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” Proverbs 25:11

I was at a bus stop sometimes ago when I heard a woman throw words carelessly at her daughters. It was a curse word and I could see the impact it had on the girl because the girl’s face fell. She was sad and she quietly walked away from where the other were.

Well, this is not the first time I have experienced something like that but this particular one triggered something in me and I felt it should be addressed. One thing I’ve learnt from my mum is that no matter how angry she may be, she is careful of the words she says to us. She often says she will rather keep quiet than commit sin.

I’ll be addressing both parents and couples in this post.

The Bible makes us understand tha life and death are in the power of the tongue. The words we speak are not just empty words. They carry weight and have impact on thew person it is spoken too, that’s as parents, it is of high importance you watch the words you sow in the lives of your children. Those words are seeds that grow and shapen the children. It is what you say to them that they may end up becoming, so isn’t it wise of us to only speak words that you’ll proud of when they eventually become what you’ve spoken to them.

Husbands and wives, your words are powerful and it is pertinent you watch what you say to your spouse even in the heat of an argument. The words you speak cannot be retracted. The damage would have been done already if you carelessly use harsh, abusive words on your spouse. Watch your words, bridle your tongue. Speak positivity into your marriage. Ask God to set a watch over your tongue, that you may speak life only into your marriage.
