I was reading a book, Raising Kingdom Kids by Tony Evans, and I came across a line where he said, “Raising kingdom kids is a joint venture with God. It struck me and I paused to think on it which formed the idea for this post.

As Christians, it is our desire that our children walk in the light and are also part of the kingdom as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Much more than it being a desire, it is a command by God for us to raise our children in the way of the Lord. However, He is not expecting us to do it alone. Parenting our children to grow up in the way of the Lord and to walk in His ways is not something we can wing on our own and figure out. We can’t rely on our wisdom, ability, strength and knowledge to raise kingdom kids.

God expects us to enter into a partnership with Him and together we both raise up our child(ren) in the way that pleases God. There is a part where God knows that His servant Abraham (and in this context, we) will command his household to work in the way of the Lord, and there is another part where the Bible makes us to understand that all our children are taught of the Lord and great shall be their peace.

It’s clear that successfully raising kingdom children requires a joint effort between God and us. We play our part in nurturing them in the way while we trust in God to teach our children so that they can experience the promised peace. If we use all the arrows in our quiver in a bid to fulfil our desire to raise up children who will be heirs of God without involving God Himself, we might just be shooting the arrows in the wrong directions and all our good-intentioned efforts might be in vain.

We are to never forget to partner with God in raising children of the kingdom—joint heirs with Christ.

Similarly, the success of any marriage requires that both partners enter into a JV with the Author of marriage. How best to have a successful marriage than to be in partnership with the Person who had the idea of marriage, and knows all that there is to make a marriage successful.

Many people are having challenges plaguing their marriage today because they want to solve their issues themselves, with their own wisdom and the knowledge they think they’ve acquired from reading books and attending seminars without involving God. All the books you’ve read and the sermons you’ve heard is nothing compared to the wisdom God will give you. If you say you are a Christian and you say Christ is the centre of your marriage, it should not be talk only, but it should reflect in how you partner with Him to walk you through the nuances of marriage.

Let me conclude with some ways you can enter into a JV with God.

  • Acknowledge Him as the One who knows all things and can guide you through all things.
  • Seek His face daily at all times and for all decisions you want to make.
  • Hear from Him through His word and godly counsel.
  • Trust Him and exercise faith that He will do what He has promised to do.

Your home will be beautiful and built to last.
